sin-ko-nah tonic syrup is a bittersweet mixer, made using the bark of the cinchona tree, the natural source of quinine. Quinine is what gives tonic water its bitter flavour and medicinal benefits – it has been used to treat malaria, as a blood cleanser, to reduce fever and as a muscle relaxant, for cramps, stress, heartburn and more.
The tonic syrup is diluted with sparkling mineral water. Gin is optional, (but highly recommended!). The resulting drink has one third less sugar than Schweppes tonic and has the versatility to adjust the intensity of flavour by adding more or less syrup as desired.
