You can find Caitlin, the talented lady behind my menagerie on Instagram, or come meet her at the Makers & Shakers on October 15 at the Marrickville Town Hall.
my menagerie is a menagerie of handmade felt toys, cushions and nursery-inspired products. Each product is made out of lovely 100% merino wool felt by maker Caitlin in her Blackheath studio. Many of the toy animal she makes are inspired by her childhood and growing up on a small farm in the bush – where her family cared for orphaned pet wombats, where guinea fowls ran amuck on the farm and where wild owls hooted in nearby trees at night. Others are inspired by some of the animals that Caitlin adores, like the sleepy sloth. New to the my menagerie range of felt products are novelty cushions, such as rosy-cheeked faces, fox faces and smaller fruit or toys. Other felt products on offer include height charts, hanging mobiles, small and large iPad cases and a small range of brooches inspired by the toy designs. my menagerie also makes a small range of gift hand-stamped cards, inspired by the menagerie of toys.
Each of Caitlin’s felt products are designed and hand-stitched with care. They are made from lovely 100% merino wool felt sourced predominantly sourced within Australia. Each toy is filled with a stuffing made from recycled plastic (PET) water bottles, The gift cards are stamped with hand-carved rubber stamps she make, inspired by some of her toys.
my menagerie embraces and celebrates “handmade”, with each product having a slight variation and uniqueness to another of its kind. It also is conscious of its environmental footprint in making consumable products, influencing its material and process choices.
